The shirts look well made and good sizing, however the fabric was quite sheer, almost see through. This makes the seams stand out. I imagine any underwear e.g. vests or crop tops worn underneath would be clearly visible.

No, these shirts are not slim fit. They’re a regular fit.
Though they’re not listed as a “pure” white, they are pretty white. They’re not cream, beige, off-white, or anything like that.

As a rough guide, age 7 is size 122 and age 8 is size 128. Though it may depend on the brand etc. often items that are age 7-8, would be labelled as a 122-128. (This specific product is sold in individual year age sizes not as a range of year sizes though).
However, it’d also depend on the child’s own height/size too as to what size would be best as children of the same age can still vary a great deal in height. We’d advise to check before considering any purchase.
As a rough guide, I've included a couple of the size measurements for this item below:
Waist at narrowest, straight across: 36.3cm (Size 122)
Shoulder Neck Point to hem: 49.3cm (size 122)
Waist at narrowest, straight across: 37.5cm (size 128)
